Ceramer and Ceramerplus have excellent thermal stability, inherent flame resistance and universal chemical resistance.

Ceramer and Ceramerplus are processed through hot pressing and sinter technology, or used as an additive in fluoropolymers and in other high performance thermoplastic polymers.

Ceramer is a very fine, light beige powder available in various grades with different particle sizes. The spherical particle shape with a rough, cracked surface enables an intimate mechanical bond with matrix polymers such as fluoropolymers.

The low density enables a high volume load in compounds with little weight gain. The specific surface area of the standard grade Ceramer 20 is about 10 m²/g according to BET measurements.

The Ceramer product line was developed by Hoechst AG and introduced into the market in 1998 by Ticona (since 2013 Celanese). The manufacturing process on an industrial scale is well established. Ceramer products have a broad application spectrum in the polymer and coating industry as well as in semi-finished parts.

In order to fully develop the market potential in all application areas and to further explore new application possibilities, Ceramer GmbH was founded in May 2003 jointly by Ticona, Prof. Hans-Werner Schmidt, Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth, and Nikolaus Helbig, responsible for financial and legal issues.

Various patents on Ceramer and Ceramer products have been granted in Europe, the USA and Asia. The patents cover the material itself, the manufacturing process, compounds with Ceramer and applications. The rights are kept and maintained by Ticona; Ceramer GmbH holds an exclusive license under these patents.
